You can't be serious," the king's son, Prince Charles, exclaimed, his voice echoing in the grand hall. His sisters, the four princesses, giggled behind their fans, trying to stifle their amusement at their brother's naivety.
"Whyever not?" General Krew responded, stroking his well-kept beard, his eyes glinting with the same greed that had led to his swift downfall. "The wealth this man speaks of could elevate our kingdom to new heights. The gold and minerals beneath our feet are nothing compared to the power these...atomic resources could bring us."
The king's friend had always had a flair for the dramatic, and his words painted a vivid picture in the minds of those present. The room grew tense as the implications of his words sank in. The king's trust was unshakeable, but the allure of power and riches beyond imagination was a siren's call none of them could ignore.
The king, sitting on his throne with a furrowed brow, studied the foreigner, Mr. Gravil Dash, with suspicion. "What is it that you propose, exactly?" he demanded, his deep voice cutting through the thick air of temptation.
Mr. Dash stepped forward, his confidence unwavering. "Your Highness, I wish to establish a partnership with your esteemed general here. Together, we can unearth the atomic treasures that lie beneath your lands, and in return, I will ensure that your kingdom becomes the most powerful in the world, surpassing even your wildest dreams." He paused, allowing the gravity of his words to resonate before continuing, "But I need your general's assistance and your blessing to proceed."
General Krew's gaze flickered with excitement as he sensed the untold wealth within his grasp. He had always craved more than the king had given him, and here it was, being offered by a stranger. The whispers of his vices grew louder in his mind: the thrill of the casino, the sweet allure of the brothels. He could have it all and more if he played his cards right.
The king, however, was not so easily swayed. His eyes narrowed as he considered the proposal. "The safety and well-being of our people is paramount. If these 'atomic resources' are as dangerous as they sound, what assurance do I have that extracting them won't bring harm to my subjects?"
Mr. Dash's smile grew wider, revealing a hint of condescension. "Fear not, Your Highness," he said, his voice as smooth as honey. "My team is comprised of the most skilled engineers and scientists from across the globe. They have developed a method that is both safe and efficient. The process will be contained, and the benefits to your kingdom will be immeasurable. Your crops will flourish, your weapons will never falter, and your enemies will tremble before your might."
The king's hand clenched into a fist, his knuckles white with tension. He knew the value of such resources, having read the scrolls from ancient times that spoke of a power so great it could both create and destroy worlds. Yet, the thought of endangering his people for the sake of power was a heavy burden to bear.
"I will need to consult with my council," the king said finally, his voice measured. "This is not a decision to be made lightly."
Mr. Dash nodded, his eyes never leaving the king's. "Of course, Your Highness. Take all the time you need."
The meeting was adjourned, and the royal council was called to an emergency session. For hours, they debated the foreigner's proposal, weighing the potential for power against the risks of the unknown. The councilors, wise men and women from various corners of the kingdom, each brought forth their own concerns and insights. Some spoke of the legendary dangers of disturbing the earth's core, while others whispered of the greed that could corrupt even the most steadfast of souls
